Daniel Day-Lewis May Head OUT THE WINDOW to Play Charles Dickens

Lynda from Echostains mentioned in her comment to my first post on The Invisible Woman that she had seen a documentary about the affair Charles Dickens had with actress Nelly Ternan. I Googled and didn't find the one she mentioned, but did find this article.

To cut and paste,
It was recently announced that writer/director Armando Iannucci would follow up the uproarious Brit-comedy In the Loop with Out The Window, a recount of the secret love affair between renowned author Charles Dickens and actress Nelly Ternan. It seems that it is merely the best of times, as the Victorian project is attracting some serious talent: The Observer reports Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) is now the frontrunner to portray Dickens in the biopic, with Ben Whishaw (Bright Star) also in the running.

I think Daniel Day-Lewis would make a terrific Dickens!

  1. I agree! Day-Lewis really has the look and certainly the acting chops. I'll be looking forward to that one!

  2. Cool! One of my favorite authors and probably my most favorite male actor...great news! I hope it pans out. I agree that Day-Lewis would be excellent. Of course, he is pretty much excellent in everything!

  3. Michael Slater's biography of Dickens has renewed my interest in Dickens' life as well as his writings and chief characters, and I look forward to reading The Invisible Woman, especially after your interesting review. A biopic with Daniel Day-Lewis is an added bonus--thanks for the news! I think he will bring so much to understanding the man.

  4. I was talking about this with my husband - we both saw it a few years ago. It was a documentary but with actors. It was really good too and centred on his relationship with Ellen Ternan.
After a bit of a trawl I found it! first shown in 2008
