Autumn Tag

Lisa at Lit and Life did this meme and I liked reading her answers to the following questions so much that I decided to do the meme myself.

What is your favorite thing about autumn? The mood.  It's mellow, and golden, and precious, and fleeting.  I love the fact that all three of my children were born in October, and my husband and I have November birthdays.  We are an Autumn family.

What book reminds you of school? I read A Separate Peace as a sophomore in high school, in the fall.  I think it was the first book of the year in English lit, and I loved it.  So many of the really memorable scenes in the first half take place at a boarding school in the fall; it has become the definitive school book for me.

What is one of your favorite autumn-related book covers? Definitely the Arthur Rackham illustrated version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

What is your favorite horror or Halloween story? I've always loved Dr. Suess's What Was I Scared Of?  I love the image of the protagonist and the pale green pants becoming friends at the end.  My kind of scary book!

What are some of your favorite horror films? Not into horror that much.  However, I did think Don't Look Now was excellent.

What is a book release you're looking forward to this autumn? A Fatal Likeness, by Lynn Shepherd, about Mary and Percy Bysshe Shelley.  Seems suitable to a season for spooky reading.

What is a film release you're looking forward to this autumn? I'm loving The Hollow Crown, currently being broadcast on PBS Great Performances.  I watched Richard II last week, and now I get to watch Henry IV, part I this week.  Absolutely wonderful.  That, along with The White Queen, and the Phillipa Gregory Cousins' War series is making me a quasi-expert on The War of the Roses.

What are three books you want to read this autumn? Bring Up the Bodies, by Hilary MantelThe Leopard, by Guiseppe di Lampedusa, and Joyland, by Stephen King.

Feel free to play along and sing your praises of Autumn and books via this meme!
