Book Blogger Appreciation WeekAbout BBAW
Book Blogger Appreciation was started by Amy Riley of My Friend Amy in an effort to recognize the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading.
The first Book Blogger Appreciation was observed in the fall of 2008 and occurs every September. The week spotlights and celebrates the work of active book bloggers through guest posts, awards, giveaways, and community activities. Book Bloggers are encouraged to register their participation for inclusion in a database of book bloggers.
BBAW is September 14-18, 2009 - the nominations for best blogs are in and being evaluated and now bloggers all over the blogosphere are memeing about blogging. Since I haven't yet put together my next blog on
1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, I figured I would do the meme. My first!
Here goes:
1) What has been one of the highlights of blogging for you?
Definitely the highlight for me is writing on a regular schedule. I miss writing fiction, but my brain cells refuse to work on plot, dialogue, and story structure while I'm trying to balance a full-time job, parenting three high-schoolers, maintaining a loving relationship with my husband, caring for aging parents, etc. Since reading is akin to breathing and something that I will never willingly give up, blogging has enabled me to write, which requires me to read more thoughtfully than I might if I had no one to talk to about what I'm reading. The ultra cool thing about blogging is that I can go on for as long or as little as I want--a perfectly valid post may be a short paragraph on a thought that struck me whilst reading
Twelfth Night for the twelfth time...
2) What blogger has helped you out with your blog by answering questions, linking to you, or inspiring you?
There are so many lovely, interesting, intelligent bloggers out there who have been gracious, patient, and oh-so-helpful. I haven't asked how-to questions, though I should because my blog is woefully inadequate when it comes to customization, but mostly I've been inspired...my fellow Janeites,
Laurel and
Vic deserve mention for their intelligent, interesting, Austenesque posts that set a high water mark.
Echostains inspired me to try to add visuals to my wordiness. Margaret at
BooksPlease and
Booksand Bicyles inspire me to read more broadly.
3) What one question do you have about BBAW that someone who participated last year could answer?
Which are the best BBAW parties? :)
I started blogging in May 2008--I am so glad I picked the name for my blog that I did as it has allowed me to write about books, theatre, movies, travelling, gardening, cooking, eating, writing, and dreaming without feeling like I'm really going off topic.
I feel richer in the blogships I've developed and can only say, thank goodness Al Gore developed the Internet! It has enabled me to find so many people who like the books I like, and enabled me to find so many books I never thought I'd like.
