I haven't done this meme in awhile, but I'm so excited to start Ghostly, a collection of ghost stories collected by Audrey Niffenegger, that I thought I would share the opening paragraph of her contribution to the collection, "Secret Life, With Cats."
I don't know why Ruth left me her house, with all its attendant complications. Perhaps she sensed that I longed for change, for an adventure. Perhaps she pitied me. Maybe she knew what I would do with such a gift, though I did not know myself. How's that for an intriguing beginning? Just knowing that it will be a ghost story involving cats makes the opening all the more delicious to me.
Sounds interesting. I hope you enjoy it. Girl Who Reads
ReplyDeleteYeah, it makes me wonder what the "attendant complications" might be!
ReplyDeleteI'm featuring Pale Highway.
This does sound good! I really enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife by the same author and have been wanting to read more by her. The idea of a ghost story involving cats makes it sound even more intriguing.
ReplyDeleteI am probably the only person on the planet who didn't like The Time Traveller's Wife! I do hope this one is everything you hoped for.
ReplyDeleteJane - I LOVED this collection, my review goes up tomorrow. I hope you love it as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally a fan of ghost stories, but I loved that intro and I like Niffenegger, so I'd keep reading.
ReplyDeleteI love Audrey's books.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds worthwhile just to read the one Niffenegger contributed. Nice opening!
ReplyDeleteThat is a strong beginning. Sometimes a like a book to start a little slower and ease into the plot but this beginning works well.
ReplyDeleteI really like cats and I really like ghost stories, though I do not read enough of them.
I also think that my wife would like this one so I will recommend it to her.
A ghost story with cats? Count me in! This is a great opening. I love when you pick up a book and are immediately sucked int. Thank-you for sharing!
