Larkrise to Candleford

I'm just about done with season 2 of this very enjoyable series. While it's abundantly clear that it's pretty far from reality, it is also clear that Larkrise to Candleford is totally enjoyable and escapist.

So here is a photo tribute to this most enjoyable series...recognize anyone?

  1. I recognise so many of them - I'm going to have to find this and watch it! Thanks Jane.

  2. Ah Julia Sawalha as Dorcas Lane-"My one weakness..."

Olivia Hallinan is great as Laura.

The Pratt sisters in their matchy matchy outfits.

Dawn French as Caroline Arless. She does like her little tipple!

And I love Claudie Blakely and Brendan Colyle as Laura's parents.

    And Queenie and Twister!

Yes, this show IS my one weakness!!!!

  5. I saw the first two series and particularly loved the first one! Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Of course, I recognize most of them from other series I saw, but I don't want to repeat what previous commenters said.

  6. I love seeing all the great British actors over and over in all the period miniseries. I just watched North and South a couple of weeks ago and was delighted to see Brendan Coyle as Higgins -- he was so wonderful in Downton Abbey! And I have just checked out Absolutely Fabulous from the library so I'm looking forward to Julia Sawalha. (I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen AbFab!)

I do want to watch Lark Rise but I still haven't read the book! And South Riding is still on the TBR shelf AND the DVR! I am soooo behind. . . . le sigh.

  8. I loved this series. "my one weakness" is now in my repertoire with friends that are familiar. It is escapism but such a good form. At least we're not in the same boat as Mrs. Arliss. I was so saddened that they rushed thru the last season. I think it was so Brendan Coyle could do Downton Abbey. I liked Downton Abbey but I would have preferred more Larkrise. So many great actors and actresses. I think I had to watch the last season online. suzan

  9. I have caught only a few episodes of this but I really liked it. I was trying to place how I knew the main actress in the first picture (on left). Then thanks to Jenny Allworthy mentioning her name as Julia Sawalha - I looked her up on IMDb. I discovered it was probably Cranford I remembered her from, but holy cow! She was Lydia in P&P 1995 and the daughter on Absolutely Fabulous! No wonder she looked familiar! I've been watching her for years! She is a wonderful character actress in that she seems to look quite different in each role.

  10. No picture of Thomas Brown? He's my favourite.

  11. Thomas Brown does add amusement in his own dry kind of way. The story would be amiss without someone like him in it.

A friend had to point out to me that Dorcas was Lydia in a previous movie. I was so shocked. Wow, what a transformation. From the most uncouth etc to the most refined. Suzan
