I left most of my comments over at Goodreads. :)Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00187517182328614133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-83486726377378634492014-12-22T11:36:07.600-07:002014-12-22T11:36:07.600-07:00E.M. Forster believed in "the secret understanding of the hearts" but sadly depicted how an attempt to overcome barriers and differences could end up in tragedy (Howard's End, Where's the Angels fear to tread, A Passagge to India). Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this great novel. It's always interesting to read your reviews, Jane.Maria Graziahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08876779286144473782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-84448401993363576512014-12-18T17:37:14.007-07:002014-12-18T17:37:14.007-07:00Nicely written review, Jane. I think that you were really on the target in regards to the allegorical elements here.

I loved the metaphysical and existentialist musing throughout the work. I never made the connection to Pilgrims Progress but I think that you are correct about that and this is what Forster had in mind.Brian Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15139559400312336791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-54638476203005601892014-12-17T20:34:17.886-07:002014-12-17T20:34:17.886-07:00I also read this many years ago, when I first disc...I also read this many years ago, when I first discovered EM Forster via the film of A Room with a View (the Maggie Smith et al version) - and I can't remember it at all!
