Then I loved her Charles Maddox and now I can't wait to read about his next adventures.<br />Thanks, Jane, for another great review!Maria Graziahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08876779286144473782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-56178634694400269342011-06-11T01:53:20.400-06:002011-06-11T01:53:20.400-06:00I am not a big fan of Jane Austen variations but, ...I am not a big fan of Jane Austen variations but, as Mansfield Park is really my all time favourite, I might be tempted. I had the same struggles as Mary with the ending, but eventually felt that I had to 'return to Austen' and bring the book back to where it started. And of course there was a nice symmetry in having the first and last sentences the same as those in Mansfield Park. Book 2 is out in the UK in Jan and later in the summer in the US!Lynn Shepherdhttp://www.lynn-shepherd.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-64330806451334046672011-06-07T07:26:59.056-06:002011-06-07T07:26:59.056-06:00Jane, I really appreciate the thoroughness of your...Jane, I really appreciate the thoroughness of your reviews, in this case, illuminating the layered dimensions of similarity and difference between Austen's and Shepherd's "Mansfield Park." I agree on the naturalness of Shepherd's prose styling of the period idiom--neither too mannered nor too modern, but just right. I applaud your singling out Charles Maddox as a promising new character. I come away from your review with a much better understanding of Lynn Shepherd's achievement and why this book was so satisfying.Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00187517182328614133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-32775523905366831062011-06-05T02:23:24.938-06:002011-06-05T02:23:24.938-06:00This one sounds like fun. It's been on my radar for a while - so hopefully I'll get hold of a copy next year.Tracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03070070360087765540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-47698416292708851722011-06-04T16:00:48.681-06:002011-06-04T16:00:48.681-06:00I am glad you enjoyed it Jane. Lynn is very imaginative and once I got over the fact that every character's personalities had been given an opposite traits (except Aunt Norris ironically), it was great fun. I also agree that Lynn is a great mystery writer and look forward to her next Charles Maddox detective novel.Laurel Ann (Austenprose)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07569869772159241024noreply@blogger.com
