I think it definitely has the quality and longevity to be considered one. It also is an amazing and unusual take ON the classics (especially Malory). I love your opening paragraphs and think they describe the book perfectly.Loryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08519976394732029323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-80560031873341541932015-07-12T21:47:46.170-06:002015-07-12T21:47:46.170-06:00Oh, I wish I would have joined you guys for this o...Oh, I wish I would have joined you guys for this one!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05554217416500328610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-78779325365255274702015-07-06T16:09:15.005-06:002015-07-06T16:09:15.005-06:00I remember reading parts of this in Junior HS. Of course, I was pretty wholly ignorant of the subtext at that time - and I don't remember anything being taught about that. I was always busy trying to find out what the hierarchy of knights was, who was the best, the second best, etc. etc. :-)Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10682779314614889264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-72209314103647595702015-07-02T17:53:31.274-06:002015-07-02T17:53:31.274-06:00I would definitely say it's a classic--it'...I would definitely say it's a classic--it's often read in schools and has been for years. My husband listened to this one on audio recently and he said the writing style reminded him a bit of Terry Pratchett.Too Fondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11849859595618711755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-24222530975422924082015-07-01T12:56:02.037-06:002015-07-01T12:56:02.037-06:00Beautiful reflection on the meaning (s) of this bo...Beautiful reflection on the meaning (s) of this book and why it is still so worth reading. I remember during the 1980s when I was reading a lot of books similar to this I came close to doing do.

Your post is reminding me that I am decades overdue :)

Among many reasons to read this, is as you mention, the theme of coping with evil that is seemingly triumphant. That seems fascinating especially in light of the time that this was written.Brian Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15139559400312336791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-20637857973850856222015-07-01T02:49:33.997-06:002015-07-01T02:49:33.997-06:00I haven't read it yet. I would say it is a classic - even without reading it - Arthurian legend, Merlin, Camelot it has always appealed to me but I hadn't realised it also related to life in the 20th century.BooksPleasehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08721650104596705715noreply@blogger.com
