Poignant and a little heartbreaking despite his selfish nature. Though I am glad he never married Mrs General - poor Little Dorrit if he had!CharmedLassiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08408541277096433664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-18222994148110597862012-04-11T21:25:12.131-06:002012-04-11T21:25:12.131-06:00I just saw the miniseries last year, for the first...I just saw the miniseries last year, for the first time! I liked Matthew MacFayden's character, and the setting and how the father's character is revealed over the course of the series. I want to read Bleak House first, and then Little Dorrit, I think. I really like the illustrations you included here too! I won't spoil the miniseries for you, I hope you enjoy it!Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095246748581382752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-48414493619810986572012-04-03T14:22:33.001-06:002012-04-03T14:22:33.001-06:00Love the Venice art. I haven't read Little Dorrit but I like the sound of the travel - makes a change from London.Cathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09391899740930810224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-61745491384204157382012-04-01T15:44:27.749-06:002012-04-01T15:44:27.749-06:00You've picked some really good pictures to ill...You've picked some really good pictures to illustrate your post.Debbie Coopehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05935744781017341500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-70504619614821801262012-03-27T01:32:34.135-06:002012-03-27T01:32:34.135-06:00I just finished Little Dorrit yesterday for the Cl...I just finished Little Dorrit yesterday for the Classic Club ( A Room of One's Own). The Grand Tour gave Dickens an opportunity to let Little Dorrit grow as a person and develop the subplots of Mr/Mrs H Gowan and Mrs General : Dorrit family. While reading those chapters I was always wondering when we would leave the continent? London is the place to be for me. That is where the characters took action and the secrets were exposed. The character of Mr Pancks was very entertaining, Dickens knows who to please the reader!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-45014935288306257022012-03-25T20:57:57.628-06:002012-03-25T20:57:57.628-06:00I'm watching a bit of the miniseries repeat on...I'm watching a bit of the miniseries repeat on PBS as I read your post again. It is so near the end that I can't report whether the Venice scene is included, but I loved the angle you chose to view the juxtaposition of different settings in the novel.

Matthew MacFadyen's Clenham is more romantic, less tortured than was Derek Jacoby's in an earlier film, which I've mentioned before. Derek Jacoby's portrayal feels closer to the book, but I'm always willing to entertain a different enactment of the characters.Lucy Pollard-Gotthttp://fictional100.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15714418.post-43907581718787058052012-03-22T17:49:22.610-06:002012-03-22T17:49:22.610-06:00I adored the PBS mini-series of this story and hav...I adored the PBS mini-series of this story and have been looking forward to reading it soon. As I'm enjoying Esther Summerson so much in Bleak House, I'm even more anxious to get to Little Dorrit.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05554217416500328610noreply@blogger.com
